Tip of the week is…“How do I get more green tips”!
Let’s say you have a specific green tip you need, for example, how to remove ivy without spraying with an herbicide or maybe you want to learn more about minimizing your exposure to harmful chemicals when you clean your home. You could wait until the Beach Goes Green Team puts your tip in the Wednesday News, or you can subscribe to the North West Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides (NCAP) and get email tips sent directly to you. The also have a nifty archive of tips online.

The results of the City Council meeting last night have Republic Services continuing as the provider for garbage and recycling pickup in Piedmont. Backyard service will be the default with curbside pickup as a subscription option – for a discount. Additional recycling items are to be picked up (beyond what we can currently recycle), as well as separate weekly green waste and food waste. Unlimited recycling and green waste will be included at no extra charge.
Beach was mentioned toward the end of the meeting, when after the vote one of the councilmembers said, “The expanded recycling we’ve just approved is what the Beach students were asking for.” Hopefully any residents that are able will opt for the less expensive curbside option which will further decrease the fumes from trucks idling to pickup garbage and recycling from people’s backyards.
