On Thursday December 12th, the PUSD school board, teacher and union representatives and the three elementary school parent club presidents visited the Emeryville school that the PUSD is considering for the single campus housing of students during Measure E Interim Housing Construction.
The site is currently known as Anna Yates. It was originally a permanent building with a few portables used to house Emeryville students whose school was in the process of being renovated. Their renovation is complete and the students will be moving back to their original school in January. The building currently houses 7 classrooms, a cafeteria/auditorium (Beach Revue would need a little modifying), administrative offices, 2 small portables and 12 large portables about the same size as Havens portables. The playground is about ½ the size of the Beach blacktop. The commute is not bad. It took me about as long to get there from lower Piedmont as it does for me to get to Hampton. They are working on a park one block over from the school that will probably be finished by September 2009.
Whether this will be fall back to Blair, or that Blair will be the fall back to this, I don’t know. In my mind both options are equally good for different reasons. I think that we are lucky to have two potentially good options to fall back on if the other site does not get approval for whatever reason. As a BPO member and parent, I can feel good about backing both site alternatives.

BPO President
